There are two types of attorney recruiters: employers and consulting agencies who recruit on behalf of employers. Attorney recruiters may be recruiting attorneys in specific practice areas like criminal law, real estate law, corporate law, family law, intellectual property law, construction law, public interest law, trust and estates laws and other areas of law. Attorney openings may be available anywhere in the United States of America. Some recruiters may be able to help applicants get local jobs or jobs in very specific geographical locations. Some recruiters may be looking for attorneys to work on public interest projects or for social welfare works.

Attorney recruiters typically hire applicants with a bachelors degree in law or a Juris Doctorate qualification. Strong academic credentials and excellent knowledge of various areas of law are essential. Prior experience working with a law firm or in an in-house legal department may prove to be advantageous. Administrative support by legal assistants or legal secretaries may be provided to attorneys by some of the firms. Strong proficiency in use of computers and relevant software used in the industry may be required. On the job training to applicants may be provided by some employers or recruiters. Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand client problems and the desire to help clients are essential for most attorney jobs.

Jobs in public interest firms may be voluntary in nature and may not be attached with periodic payments. Some recruiters may be recruiting on behalf of specific or unspecific employers. Recruiters generally shortlist candidates and then forward them to clients who are the actual employers. Recruiters generally work on commission basis. Though, recruiters may not always be able to provide exact job specifications and compensation details. Recruiter jobs provide jobseekers with wide exposure and increase their probability of getting selected.
